Whiten Teeth

On our way to whiten teeth, we first need to know why our teeth turn into yellow. To know this we must first understand the anatomy of a tooth. A tooth is made up of 4 tissues : -

  • Enamel - a strong white covering that protects the truth
  • Dentin - is a hard yellow material that carries nerves and supports the enamel
  • Pulp - contains blood and lymph vessels and is at the center of the tooth
  • Cementum - covering the root of the tooth
  • Gum - muscles that hold the teeth in in its place

Certain foods and drinks we consume frequently are directly responsible for damaging the enamel and dentin. Over the years, as we get older the enamel breaks down revealing the yellow dentin. Breaking down of the enamel has another bad side also. Without a enamel cover whenever, we drink hot or cold a severe shivering effect is felt. Now let's find which foods cause maximum damage to the teeth :

Foods and Drinks That Cause Maximum Damage

Constant exposure to sugar, like chewing candies is harmful for teeth. To avoid this try to chew sugarless chewing gum

Constant exposure to foods containing acid like citrus or lemon results in erosion of the enamel and cause decay. Therefore, rinse your teeth well after eating these.

Coffee and tea added with sugar though a healthy beverage is bad for our teeth. Try to drink them without sugar and also rinse mouth after drink

Sticky foods tend to stick on the teeth for longer period than normal foods and pave the way for bacteria causing tooth decay. Thus, rinse with water and use of 'floss' are necessary.

Sugary drinks available in bottles and tin container is harmful for teeth since they facilitate formation of bacteria. Other carbonated soft drinks/soda are acidic in nature, therefore, cause damage to the enamel. Thorough rinse of mouth is absolutely essential after drink.
